"Any idiot can face a crisis - it's day to day living that wears you out." Anton Chekhov

Today I started off my day by going down to the Post Office... It was interesting. They didn't seem to want to accept my Canadian driver's license. I think they thought it was fake, haha. I picked up my package from the postal office (Thank you Max for your donation!) and headed over to work. I am so lucky that I live so close to work. Because of that, I was able to walk down to the UN before 9 am.

At the event! How cool is that
The people there are so friendly. While going through the metal detector, some guy started talking to me about the weather, small things. He worked at the gift shop and gave me his business card! This is networking at its finest people. Take notes (Be nice really, that's the only note you need).

Real wine and cheese
Work was kind of boring, I'm still working on my own independent project (And I'm not 100% sure I know what I'm doing?). But lunch finally rolled around and I met up with some new friends! One from the Brazilian permanent mission and one from the Austrian one! It was super awesome. They are doing some seriously cool work. I even met another Canadian intern! We sat outside in Ralph Bunche park (I'll try to take photos tomorrow) because the weather was fantastic. About 17 degrees, sunny and not humid. I'm going to try to enjoy this weather for as long as I can - no coat for me tomorrow!

After lunch, I went back to doing some work, looking at some confidential files and putting around until about 5 when I got off work.

After work, I went to another reception! Where aAuthor Christopher Cerf presented his book, "Spin-glish: the Definitive Dictionary of Deliberately Deceptive Language" to benefit literacy projects of the UN Staff 1% Fund. It was co-hosted by the UN Correspondents' Association (UNCA). I went mostly to see what it was about and you know, the wine and cheese, but I ended up really enjoying myself. The author was funny, witty and had a marvelous smile on all night. It was one of those smiles that make the edges of your mouth turn up without even thinking. He was funny and I got to learn about more of the UN 1% Fund was all about. I really enjoyed it. It also helped that I was sitting with other interns as well so I got to enjoy some company as well.

At the event!
I was meant to go to the bar with the interns afterwards (They do a drinks day at a bar by the UN every Thursday - unofficial a UN Intern bar) but I'm going to be honest, I am very exhausted. I have been walking around New York, doing walking tours, taking in the sights... even after work every day this week I've gone out, or I've got groceries, two receptions already. This day to day life is kind of wearing me down. I don't know how my roommate keeps herself alive working so many hours. I can just barely survive working 9-5 and then doing activities every night afterwards without fail.
I think the caption says it all.

I need to learn to balance and moderate a bit so I'm going to try to do that in the next few weeks where I can find the balance between going out to events, working, exploring New York and then just sitting around (maybe in Bryant park!!)  and relaxing.

On the bright side, my boyfriend has bought tickets to come visit me so I will have another visitor soon! Woo! :)
